Los Ángeles.- La comedia de policías juveniles «21 Jump Street» fue la película más taquillera del pasado fin de semana en EE.UU. tras recaudar 35 millones de dólares y superar a la animada «The Lorax» de Dr. Seuss que lideró esta lista durante los últimos quince días.
El humor en español de «Casa de mi padre», protagonizada por Will Ferrell, Diego Luna, Gael García Bernal y Génesis Rodríguez logró hacerse un hueco entre las 10 películas más vistas a pesar de que apenas se proyectó en 382 salas de cine frente a las más de 3.000 de «21 Jump Street», «The Lorax» y «John Carter».
«The Lorax», cinta en la que un niño debe descubrir la historia de una criatura llamada The Lorax para conquistar a la chica de sus sueños, cerró su cuenta del fin de semana con unos ingresos de 22,8 millones de dólares.
Con 13,5 millones de dólares se tuvo que conformar la superproducción «John Carter», un filme de ciencia ficción en el que un veterano de la Guerra Civil de EE.UU. se convierte en el héroe de las guerras marcianas.
«John Carter» confirmó su fracaso en la taquilla de EE.UU. aunque ha conseguido enganchar al público en los mercados internacionales donde hasta el momento ha recaudado más de 126 millones de dólares en dos semanas por poco más de 53 en EE.UU.
El falso documental sobre una alocada fiesta adolescente que se va de las manos a sus organizaciones, «Project X», obtuvo 4 millones de dólares y 3,7 millones logró la última comedia de Eddie Murphy, «A Thousand Words», en la que interpreta a un agente literario con mucha labia que tendrá que vivir casi en silencio para no perder la vida.
«Act of Valor», la película de exaltación del heroísmo militar de un cuerpo de elite estadounidense sumó 3,6 millones de dólares a su cuenta de resultados que supera ya los 62 millones de dólares tras un mes en cartel.

El «thriller» «Safe House» hizo 2,8 millones de dólares y la secuela de aventuras «Journey 2: The Mysterious Island» consiguió 2,4 millones.
«Casa de mi padre» debutó como la novena película más taquillera del fin de semana con una trama en la que Will Ferrell encarna al hijo de un ranchero mexicano que intenta salvar su propiedad de la ruina y se ve envuelto en problemas con narcotraficantes.
«Casa de mi padre» logró 2,2 millones de dólares por 2,1 millones de otra comedia, «This Means War».
