La NBA informó el jueves a los equipos que pretende retomar su calendario habitual la próxima temporada, con el inicio de los campos de entrenamiento a finales de septiembre y el comienzo de la campaña regular el 19 de octubre.
La liga envió un memo a los equipos, y al cual The Associated Press tuvo acceso a una copia. El documento no especifica cuándo terminaría la temporada regular 2021-22, y eso se debe a que aún no ha decidido oficialmente si regresaría el torneo de play-in. En caso de que así suceda, y no hay indicios de lo contrario, el calendario regular finalizaría el 10 de abril.
El regreso al calendario normal no es algo inesperado, y el comisionado Adam Silver ha dicho en varias ocasiones de que la intención de la liga durante los últimos varios meses — si lo permite el coronavirus — es la de retomar el calendario regular después de dos campañas de caos de programación debido a la pandemia.
Pero eso significará otro descanso muy breve para los equipos que lleguen este año a la Final.
Esta temporada, un posible séptimo juego de la Final podría alargarse hasta el 22 de julio; y los campos de entrenamiento están programados a iniciar el 28 de septiembre, lo que significa que es posible que los equipos que lleguen a la final vuelvan a la duela 68 días después de la serie por el título.
Los finalistas del año pasado, los campeones Lakers de Los Ángeles y el Heat de Miami, tuvieron 51 días de descanso entre el último partido de la Final y el inicio del campo de entrenamiento, y esta campaña inició 72 días después de que los Lakers ganaron el título en la burbuja de Walt Dinsey World.
Los Lakers y el Heat quedaron eliminados en la primera ronda de los playoffs de este año y apenas dos de los últimos ocho equipos en ser eliminados la campaña anterior alcanzaron la segunda ronda de postemporada en 2021. Las dudas sobre la fatiga de los equipos fue algo que se discutió a lo largo de la campaña, y sin duda lo será la siguiente, en especial para los equipos que avancen más lejos en los playoffs de este año.
“Desde el momento en que ingresamos a la burbuja hasta este día, ha sido agotador”, dijo el alero de los Lakers LeBron James después de la eliminación de su equipo. “Mental, física, espiritual y emocionalmente agotador. Obviamente, todos los equipos tienen que lidiar con eso. Pero con nosotros y Miami que estuvimos más tiempo en la burbuja y reaparecimos con poco tiempo de antelación, ha sido muy agotador”.
Los playoffs comenzarían el 16 de abril y la Final de la NBA está programada a empezar el 2 de junio, con el último juego de la serie para el 18 de junio
